Secure storage: From anywhere for anyone

Visualize this: Your 1Mbyte file broken into 100 encrypted blocks and stored anonymously amongst a billion neighbors on 100 different servers.

You, with encryption codes known only to you, are the only person who can go find those blocks, decrypt them and stitch the file back together again.

That’s what dataSentinel is all about. The best realizable security on the Net. We manage the servers that store the encrypted blocks. We provide software that lets you store your file’s blocks. We make sure those blocks are maintained, but we don’t ever see your encryption codes so we cannot view your data. Its private to you and you alone.

This secure storage system sits below RoomYak to provide the storage for all the files (2D objects) and things of each room. When we say that your ‘private’ room is private, we mean it. The encryption codes (we call them Personal Encryption Codes or PECs) are unique for each user and are stored either on the owner’s hard-drive and/or on a removable USB stick owned by that owner. That’s it. In fact, we insist that you print a copy of your private PEC when you first set up an account and put it in a safe place because if you lose all copies of that PEC we cannot restore it for you.

The dataSentinel file system also allows you to share your data. When you create a ‘public room’ in RoomYak,  a new PEC is created and embedded in your private file system. This PEC defines a completely independant space to store rooms or files. Should someone wish to visit this public room, they receive just enough information about this PEC to allow them to open and view the room and its files, but not enough to change or write to this space. The visitor has a ‘Read-only’ view of your public room. They can open the files on the wall, but cannot overwrite them. Of course they can also copy the file to thier local file system and modify the contents. They just can’t change the copy of the file seen by other visitors in your room.

The dataSentinel File Explorer interface might appear if you press the ‘Escape’ key or close the window and select the “Go to Files View” option. It operates as a conventional (and possibly boring) view of the file system. Press the “Escape” key or click on the box-like “Rooms3D” icon to get back to the RoomYak interface.
